Workshops

To mark the BBC’s centenary in 2022, two online workshops will be hosted by the University of Exeter to discuss aspects of the under-researched history of the Corporation’s European Services. Revisiting the broadcaster’s role as cultural ambassador and instrument of Britain’s foreign policy in the twentieth century is extremely urgent in light of the UK government’s recent decision to abolish the BBC’s licence fee by 2027. The aim of the workshops is to create dialogues between academic scholars, students and former and current BBC employees with a view to develop collaborative research projects as well as public and outreach events that bring back into view the significance of the BBC in representing and advancing British interests in Europe.
